Why it matters

One hospital bill shouldn't undo years of saving.

A single serious hospitalisation in a private hospital can run into several lakhs — and medical costs in India rise faster than almost anything else you budget for. A family health insurance plan means treatment decisions are driven by what's best for your family, not by what you can afford that month.

A family floater covers your whole household under one shared sum insured, usually at a lower cost than insuring each person separately. As an IRDAI-licensed Star Health advisor in [City], I'll help you pick the right cover amount and — crucially — fill the form honestly so your claims actually get paid.

Family health insurance questions I hear a lot

Floater or individual policies — which is better?

A family floater shares one sum insured across everyone and is usually cheaper for a young family. Individual policies give each person their own dedicated cover, which suits families with an older member or someone with ongoing health needs. I'll compare both for your family's actual profile.

How much cover should a family take?

In a metro, medical costs are high enough that many families are under-insured at ₹5 lakh. A floater of ₹10 lakh or more is a sensible starting point for a young family, higher if you have older members. Use the estimator above for a quick figure, then we'll refine it.

Are pre-existing conditions covered?

Yes, after a waiting period defined in the policy — typically a few years. The key is to declare every condition honestly when you buy. Undisclosed conditions are the main reason claims get rejected, and I make sure your form is complete from the start.

What does cashless treatment mean?

At a network hospital, the insurer settles the bill directly so you don't pay the covered amount upfront. You show your policy details at admission, the hospital coordinates approval, and you're free to focus on treatment rather than payment.

How does the claim process work?

For cashless, the hospital raises the request and the insurer approves it. For non-network hospitals, you pay and claim reimbursement with the bills. Either way, I personally help your family through it — that hands-on support at claim time is the point of using an advisor.

Can I get a tax benefit?

Yes. Health premiums are deductible under Section 80D — up to ₹25,000 for your immediate family and an additional ₹25,000–₹50,000 for parents depending on their age. Tax rules can change over time.
